Ty Lawson and Carolina beat Duke 101-87

It was the Ty Lawson show in the second half as North Carolina came from behind in the second half to beat the Duke Blue Devils 101-87 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke held a 52-44 halftime lead as they shot lights out and stopped the Tar Hell run and gun offense. However things turned completely around in the second half as Carolina got hot behind Lawson and Duke had no answer on the other end.

It was a pretty good overall shooting night for the Blue Devils as they shot 48.6% from the field and 33.3% from three point land. However the Tar Heels shot 54.8% and 40% respectively. Kyle Singler led Duke in scoring with 22 and was closely followed by Jon Scheyer who put in 20 points. Gerald Henderson who had a strong first half finished with 17 points but could never really get things going in the second half when Duke needed an answer Lawson.

One area of the game that the Blue Devils need to work on is the free throw shooting. They only went 11 of 18 Wednesday night while the Tar Hells went 27 of 31 from the charity stripe.

All in all I thought Duke played pretty good and much better then their last two games. They just didn’t have the speed to keep up with Lawson in the second half and gave Carolina too many second chance points. Now the question will be how does Duke respond from losing this game? Their next game is at Boston College this Sunday and that can be a tough place to play. I think they will bounce back and pick up a victory while staying right behind North Carolina in the standings.
