Marquette knocks off Duke 73-62

We all knew that this would be a tough game for the young Duke Blue Devils, and it sure was.  Marquette got second chance points off rebounds and Duke once again missed quite a few layups.

The first five minutes DeMarcus Nelson dominated the game scoring a quick 11 points, but was never heard from again until late in the second half.  Where id Nelson go we might ask?  Possibly got lost in the suffle of players and Marquette stepped up the defense on him.

You could tell that Josh McRoberts was forcing himself into bad situations late in the game that led to him taking bad shots or turning the ball over.  He is a force down low, but only certain situations where he uses his teammates and passing to his ability.

It will take some time for the young team to gel together but by time ACC conference play rolls around, I think they will be playing alot better.  It will also help to have Greg Paulus playing 35 minutes a game.

Another thing that will help this Duke team is getting the ball down on the low block to Zoubek more often.  He should be taking 8 shots a game with his size and ability.  Take advantage of a 7′1 player when you are playing against a 6′8-6′10 player.

Dukes next game will be Saturday at home against Davidson.  You can watch the game on Fox Sports South.  Gametime is set for 7 pm eastern time.
