Ouch, it was a terrible Saturday afternoon for Duke in Washington, D.C. as Georgetown completely dominated the Blue Devils 89-77. Playing in front of the President and Vice President, the Blue Devils came out lack luster and appeared that they had just woken up five minutes before the game.
The defense was absolutely terrible. There is no reason that you should allow this Hoya team to score 89 points when they came into the game averaging just 73 points. The defense was very lack luster as Greg Monroe, Austin Freeman and Chris Wright all scored over 20 points for Georgetown. There is no excuse for letting that happen.
The other thing that went against Duke was 16 turnovers. When you are allowing the opposing team to score 89 points there is no way you can turn the ball over 16 times. You have got to do a better job handling the ball and getting it to the open guy.
Just a terrible day overall.

Duke does not impress me as a “sweet sixteen” team. Very over-rated based on games I have seen them play. Each game one or two players do not show up. And Zubec fouls twice in two minutes. I am a big Duke fan – but turned it off early in second half because the announcers were so pro-Georgetown. Yeah Clark!

I believe this is the best Duke team in a number of years and the “Three S-Guys” are as good as it’s gets! It’s also not lost on most of us that whoever plays Florida State will get “Brutalized” into next week and it certanly showed up in this game with Georgetown. Also, why they turned off the three point machine and wasted all their energy trying to be Brutal in the Paint….. missing scores of simple two pointers, is beyond me??? When you have a great strength, use it!
Zubek has improved greatly over the past two years but appears to be “Painted Resale Red” ( like a two ton sports car ) and any time he moves…. he gets charged with a foul. It’s not over, Coach K is #1, here is to Duke working it out all the way to the Final Four!!!

I do not understand why Duke loses quality players in 3 years or less. It seems it started back when Duke loss to Conn in the national championship – E Bland leaves. Then a whole list of others – Dunleavy, J Williams, Roberts and now Henderson.
On top of that Duke loses recruits after one year of play to another school. E Williams, T King, etc.
It seems to me the timing of these players leaving early really hurt the next year’s team.
What is the problem? Coack K’s selection process, the coaches communication of how hard Duke really is – academics and the demands of the bball?
Here another year of expectations is starting to fade quickly.

Without a dominate big man this team is not going to get past the Sweet 16 in my opinion. Zoubek is not the answer and shouldn’t even be playing. He has been in the program for years and has not improved like he needed to. (But hey, he can grow a beard).
The Plumlee brothers need to step up and do so without fouling. Smith, Scheyer and Singler need to knock down their shots but also get back and play some defense.
There is plenty of time left in the season to get things turned around. It’s not going to be easy, but it has to start on the defensive end of the court.
