Another good game for the Blue Devils at Madison Square Garden in New York City yesterday. Once again playing in front of quite a few Duke Fans, the Dukies beat St. Johns 67-50. St. Johns struggled during the first half only scoring 10 points while Duke pushed out to a 34-10 lead.
St. Johns came out with more agression during the second half and actually had their crowd back into the game for a little bit. The play in the second half also got more physical as twice there were double technical fouls called. For Duke, Josh McRoberts and DeMarcus Nelson picked them up. Nothing too bad, just some physical play that the refs wanted to stop and prove a point right then.
It was Greg Paulus and DeMarcus Nelson who led the Blue Devils in the game. Paulus scored 19 points and Nelson added 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Jon Scheyer chipped in with 11 points as well. McRoberts had a good all around game finishing some close shots with dunks, and also throwing a great alley-oop to Nelson in the first half that got the crowd buzzing. McRoberts finished the game nine points, six rebounds, and six blocks.
The Blue Devils are picking up momentum heading into another epic battle with North Carolina and then the ACC Tournament. I think if they can some how beat Carolina, they have a really good shot and making some noise in the ACC Tournament and then in the NCAA Tournament. Expect Duke to get a 3-4 seed with the NCAA brackets come out in a few weeks.
