Duke and Georgia Tech battled down in Atlanta on Wednesday night and it was an old fashioned slugfest just like we have seen in past years. Both teams struggled at times in the first half but it was Duke who put together a much better half in the second half and pulled away for a 70-56 victory.
Duke shot like crap all game long I thought. As a team they only shot 39% from the floor and 33% beyond the arc. Usually you will see the Blue Devils shooting at a much higher percentage but they were just off against the Yellow Jackets. Kyle Singler and Gerald Henderson both chipped in 19 points each to lead the team. Jon Scheyer also helped out as he scored 14 of his own points.
There was no question that the youth of Georgia Tech played a big role in the game. They were terrible at the free throw line only shooting 7 of 19 and committed 18 turnovers. This is a team that is very athletic but they just need time to work together in my opinion.
Duke improved to 15-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play with the 14 point victory. Up next for the Blue Devils will be a huge game against Georgetown on Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Georgetown is currrently ranked #12 in the country. Tip-off is set for 1:30 ET so make sure you are at Cameron or tuned into CBS!
