The hot shooting Duke Blue Devils took care of business in the semi-finals of the CBE Classic in Kansas City last night. Duke used a strong performance by Junior DeMarcus Nelson who finished with a career high 23 points to defeat the fighting Falcons from Air Force.
You could tell the Air Force’s version of the “Princeton Offense” was giving them trouble most of the night with backdoor cuts and sharp passing leading to wide open layups and three point shots. The good thing for the Blue Devils was that Air Force wasn’t making some of the layups and three pointers.
Lance Thomas gave a great performance all night long and I can see him only getting more playing time by his agressive play and getting the ball in the bucket. You gotta love those wide open jump shots he was making!
We may not see the real Gerald Henderson until sometime in ACC conference play I’m thinking. I’m wondering if he is still bothered by the injury he nursed during early practices and still isn’t 100%. He doesn’t look like he has all of his confidence right now to play big time basketball.
Duke will play No. 13 Marquette, which beat Texas Tech 87-72 on Monday, at 10 p.m. today for the CBE Classic title. Game time is set for 10 pm eastern time and will be televised on ESPN2.
