In a pretty surprising seeding, Duke has been placed in the South Region and earned the #3 overall seed in the tournament. Almost everyone had thought that Syracuse would be sent to the South region but instead they were sent out West and Duke to received the spot in the South. So what does this mean for Duke after they won the ACC Tournament on Sunday?
Duke will take on the play-in game winner of Winthrop and Arkansas State Pine Bluff. The second round match up could be a very tough game for Duke as they could possibly take on Louisville who knocked off Syracuse a couple of times this season. I’ll be rooting for CAL to knock off Louisville in the first round game that is for sure.
Overall a lot of people and fans think that Duke has a pretty easy draw. I think if they can get by the second round game against Louisville or CAL, they would match up good against Texas A&M or Purdue in a Sweet 16 contest.
One thing is for certain, it’s tournament time and there will be upsets. Hopefully things work out for the Blue Devils this year and they can make it all the way to the Final Four and come away with a Championship!

This team would be better off as a lower seed. The last thing they need is the annual pressure of advancing. Nova is already a popular pick to topple them….we’ll see what happens.

Another “cupcake” ride to the Final Four for Duke. Year after year the NCAA tries their best to give Duke a free ride. And they continue to do a good job!! This year being no exception…..They draw a three seed in the weakest region, get the “play in” game, and make a nice soft landing in the South ….ahhh right at home??? Meanwhile Syracuse goes West, and the other two #1 seeds draw the stiffer competition.
Maybe “Duke” Vitale and his cronies who wear the black and white pin stripe shirts at the Duke games can explain.
I’m sure Duke Vitale will come up with a dazzling explanation. I just wonder who Duke Vitale is referring to when he spews out “hes a PTP-er baby”?
Is it the referees? I mean really…. I just watched the referees single handidly give Duke the game against Baylor. Did Baylors starting center (Lomas) get to play 5 minutes in this game??? I think he fouled out with more then 9 minutes left in the game.
Then the terrible charging call against Acy which would have put Baylor up by four and given them momentum. And how about the technical call with a minute left in the game after Scheyer started swinging his elbows and Acy comes to the aid of his own players and slightly bumps Smith. YOU CANT BE SERIOUS???
Thanks refs…. for making another interesting tournament game into a mockery.
A look at the stats: Duke shoots 29 free throws compared to Baylors 19. Weird considering how the commentators are always talking about how aggresive Duke is on Defense, yet, they somehow avoid foul trouble and sending the opponent to the foul line.
It becomes more common every year… especially when Duke or North Carolina are playing in the Tourney. Reminds me of the championship game Carolina played against Illinois a few years ago when the referees made quick work of the Illinois center, by calling quick cheap fouls on him early and often, clearing the path for Sean May to run over anyone and everyone in his way. In that game Illinois had a whopping 6 free throw attempts for the whole game, while Carolina had 19 attempts.
Yes, I’m a hater in every sense of the word. I am not a Baylor Alum or fan. Merely a fan of the tournament itsself and the possibilities of seeing great games (with fair officiating). Since Duke kept UNLV from repeating as National Champs, there’s been a steady “cuddling” of the Duke Program by the likes of Duke Vitale and almost every other ESPN or sports commentator. I think its a “white” thing. (by the way, I’m white). Unlike the referees on the floor, I’m just calling it the way I see it!! Maybe there is more to it then meets the eye.
I have become more skeptical of college referees during the last 15 years. With the referee caught gambling on games in the NBA, it even becomes more apparent that college referees and tournament officials may have an agenda other then fair and entertaining competition! Gambling is a big business these days.
