Talk about a surprise on Sunday afternoon for the Duke Blue Devils. Rhode Island gave the Blue Devils all they could handle as they led for most of the game until Kyle Singler nailed a couple of free throws to give the Blue Devils the led for good late in the second half. The 82-79 game was Duke’s third win of the season as they opened up with a 3-0 record for the ninth straight season.
Jon Scheyer was the man for the Blue Devils as he finished with 23 points. Thirteen of the 23 points came on 13 of 13 shooting from the free throw line. Singler was right behind Scheyer in the point column as he scored 21 in the game.
Lance Thomas and Nolan Smith both chipped in 10 points each as well.
The reason the Rams made a game of is it because of the hot shooting from Jimmy Baron who was shooting lights out from beyond the arc. Baron nailed eight three pointers in the game and was hitting them from so far back, some fans probably thought it was J.J. Redick back at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Up next for Duke is a Thursday night game against Southern Illinois who is currently 2-0 on the season. The game will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
