Duke advances in Maui Invitational with win over Illinois 79-66

Tuesday nights game against the Fighting Illini of Illinios seemed like a game that should be taking place in March, but here we are just a few weeks into the season and playing some tough games. Duke used a scrappy effort and a lot of driving to the bucket to defeast the Illini by the score 79-66.

Behind Gerald Henderson’s 23 points, and DeMarcus Nelson’s 16 points the Duke Blue Devils held atleast a 10 point lead most of the game. It was nice to see the Devils put up points when Kyle Singler didn’t have a good game. It just proves to everyone that there are other scorers on this team and will put the ball through the bucket.

Duke was out rebounded last night by 10 boards. That is something they are going to have to do a better job against. Block out and stick to your man while grabbing and holding on to the ball. Brian Zoubek, get some hands big guy!

Duke will now advance to the Maui Championship to face off against Marquette. If you remember back to last year, Marqutte defeated the Blue Devils when they met up in Kansas City. Duke will have to slow down the Marquette guards if they want to defeat them Wednesday night. Lets hope the Blue Devils stay hot in Hawaii!
