It’s time for another addition to our “About being a Duke fan” section. This time it is Bailey from Durham giving us her thoughts and opinions on Duke basketball. If aren’t already, make sure you follow this Duke girl on Twitter @baylovesyall
How long have you been a Duke fan and what was the first moment you remember being that die hard Duke fan?
Growing up in Durham, NC, I was born and raised a Duke fan. I remember wearing Duke shirts to school and getting ugly looks, but always being proud to wear Duke blue. I think that I truly became a die hard Duke fan in the sixth grade, when I watched Coach K lead our team to our 3rd national championship.
Your favorite Duke player of all time and why?
This is probably such a stereotypical girl answer, but I really loved watching JJ Redick for 4 years. I remember watching his first game at Duke and being so mesmerized. That boy can shoot! There have been so many memorable players at Duke, so it’s hard to pick just one!
Your thoughts on the 2010-2011 season as Duke tries to repeat as champions?
First of all, knock on wood! I knocked on wood throughout the entire tournament last year and the entire time I was in Indy. I wouldn’t talk about the tournament for the fear of jinxing my boys. I will just say that I’m so hyped to see Kyrie, Seth, Josh, and Tyler on the court and I’m so happy for our seniors- Nolan, Kyle, and Casey. As Coach K said, I’m not just hungry for this, I’m starving!!!!! LET’S GO DUKE!!! (Knock on wood)
Do your friends and family think you are crazy for being such a Duke fan?
Absolutely. My family is used to it, and my brother/dad are just as diehard as I am. My friends at school have gotten used to it too, but random people do yell “Hey Duke girl!” across campus to me. Also, the people at BW3′s probably hate me, because I start GTHC, GTH (clap, clap) chants ALL the time!
