Things started off slow for the Duke Blue Devils on Wednesday night but a lock down defense and some big buckets from Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler in the second half pushed them to a 11 point victory over Arizona State. The defense limited the Sun Devils to just 23 points in the second half and that was the key to the victory.
Scheyer showed up to play as he led the team with 16 points and six assists. Jon did have his first two turnovers of the season but he was pretty much the reason why the Blue Devils won this game.
Nolan Smith added 14 points while Singler chipped in with 13 points. Singler simply didn’t shoot the ball like he has in other games but did come up with some big shots as the Blue Devils pulled away late.
Up next is a big showdown with Uconn in the tournament finals on Friday. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and we can then celebrate a win on Friday!

It was total domination for Duke on Tuesday night as the Blue Devils rolled over Charlotte 101-59 to move on to New York City. This game was never in question as Duke quickly rolled out to a double digit lead and never looked back. The Duke offense looked much better tonight and that was pretty much due to the fact that Nolan Smith was back in the linep afters serving a two game suspension.
Smith had a career high 24 points and five assists. Smith was on fire from the get go and after reading some of his twitter comments this morning you could really tell that he was excited to get out on the court and begin his season.
Jon Scheyer shot 7 of 13 from the field to knock in 20 points. Scheyer was 4 of 7 from three point land and also contributed with six rebounds and five assists. All around Scheyer had a great game!
Other Duke players that scored in double figures were Kyle Singler with 17 and Miles Plumlee with 15. Great all around game with a lot of contribution from every player. I like the fact that Singler got some rest this game as he only played 26 minutes. Singler and Scheyer are going to need to get their rest as the season goes on.
Duke will be back at things Saturday afternoon against Radford. I’d expect the backups to get quite a bit of work in this game as the Blue Devils should roll!

Duke improved to 2-0 on the young season as they beat Coastal Carolina in Durham 74-49. It wasn’t a great game for the Blue Devils on the offensive side of things but thanks to Kyle Singler things looked a little better. I’ll say it once again, but this team needs Jon Scheyer and one other player to really step up on offense. Maybe they will get a spark with Nolan Smith coming back on Tuesday night?
Singler led the way with 23 points on 8-14 shooting. Andre Dawkins threw in 13 points while Jon Scheyer and Miles Plumlee got into double figures with 10 points each.
It was Duke’s zone on defense that controlled this game in my opinion. Duke had 18 total fouls in the game but with the zone it really slowed down the Coastal Carolina offense to the tune of 49 points on 28.6% shooting.
Up next for the Blue Devils will be matchup between the Elon / Charlotte matchup that is going on right now at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

It was a good evening for the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night as they opened up with a 96-62 win over UNCG. I was unable to watch the game on tv due to the blackout rules. (When did DirecTV start blacking out college basketball games?!) I tried catching some of it online but the feed wasn’t that good.
It looks like it was the Kyle Single and Jon Scheyer show as they led the Blue Devils with 20 and 18 points each. The Blue Devils shot 59.7 percent and used two huge first-half runs to extend their NCAA record home nonconference winning streak to 69.
Brian Zoubek scored 14 off the bench. Lance Thomas added 12 and Miles Plumlee scored 10.
I plan on having a write up this evening after the Duke vs Coastal Carolina game as that one will be on ESPNU. Follow the blog on twitter @justdukecom for live in game blogging!

Well Duke fans, Harrison Barnes is not coming to Duke as he chose the bad guys over at North Carolina this afternoon on ESPN U. Good ole Roy and the whole team around on Skype when Harrison announced which was pretty cool to see. Barnes is the type of player that the Blue Devils really needed to pick up as he is a player that can transform a good team to a great team and that means a national championship.
If you are sick to your stomach, don’t go looking at the signing class that UNC has put together for next year…
So now where does Coack K and the staff turn to? Will it be Roscoe Smith? C’mon down to Durham Roscoe!

Coach K was counting on freshman Mason Plumlee to play early and often this season but that is has been but on hold after a hard fall on Wednesday that broke his left wrist. Mason was hoping team up with brother Miles but that will also be put on hold due to the injury.
Mason took a hard fall in practice on Wednesday that resulted in the wrist injury,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “It was an unfortunate play, but we are confident that he will make a full recovery. Mason is going to be a very good player for us, and we look forward to him getting healthy and returning to the court.”
The Blue Devils will be without Mason as well as Nolan Smith who has to sit out Friday nights game due to playing in non-sanctioned game over the summer.
