Duke commit Andre Dawkins has confirmed that he will be enrolling a year early at Duke University as he has finished up his high school and was in line to receive his diploma late last week. Dawkins is all but ready to move into East Campus and help out the Duke Basketball team.
Dawkins told Coach Wojciechowski that he would like to wear #20 which transfer Elliot Williams wore before leaving the program during the offseason.
“We are excited about Andre joining our program,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement released by the university. “He is a very talented player and an excellent student. He worked hard throughout his high school career and this summer to put himself in this position. He will be an outstanding addition to the university and our basketball team.”
Dawkins is expected to help out at the shooting guard position where he is lethal from the three point line. Hopefully Andre can play some good defense and he will find himself on the court a lot in my opinion.

The Duke basketball team could get a bigtime boost in a few weeks if Andre Dawkins is able to skip his final year of high school and enroll early at Duke University. With the lack of depth at the guard position, Dawkins enrolling early would really give the Blue Devils a much needed boost at the position.
Dawkins could fill in behind Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith while playing 15-20 minutes a game in my opinion. Sure he will have some bumps along the way but I’m willing to sit through those bumps because I think their will be a lot more positive plays than negative in his freshman campaign.
There has not been an official statement released by the university per NCAA rules at this time. We should here something more official as the first day of classes draws closer.
Stay tuned Duke fans!
