The Duke Blue Devils were not happy with their 80-49 victory over the Presbyterian Blue Hose as they started the game off very slow and committed too many turnovers. Sure it was the first game of the season, but the Blue Devils know the style of game they need to play and they know that they did not bring it on Monday night.
Kyle Singler led the way for the Blue Devils as he scored 19 points (12 in the first half) and also grabbed 10 rebounds while finishing with a double-double. Singler also blocked two shots and had two assists. Singler played pretty well all night long but did miss a couple of easy baskets that he should have made.
Nolan Smith chipped in 15 points on six of seven shooting to help out the Blue Devils as well. Smith got the start over Greg Paulus in the game at point guard and showed that he can be that number one ball handler for Duke.
Jon Scheyer and Lance Thomas both finished the game with 12 points each.
Duke will need to pick things up on the offensive side of the ball in Tuesday’s game against Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern defeated Houston 65-63 to advance in the tournament. I expect less turnovers and more points out of the Blue Devils on Tuesday. It will be exciting to see the team come out and improve on Monday nights win.

The Duke basketball team finished up their exhibition games with a 95-42 victory over Division 2 Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday night. The Blue Devils as expected dominated at both ends of the court but what really stood out was how well they played on the defensive side of the ball as they caused 20 turnovers and held the Lenoir-Rhyne to 27.9 percent (17-of-61) shooting.
Kyle Singler led the Blue Devils with 22 points on 9-11 shooting. Coack K said the Singler has been practicing very well the past ten days and he expects big things out of him throughout the season. Brian Zoubek added 15 points while Nolan Smith chipped in with 14.
Duke opens the regular season Monday night against Presbyterian in the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. Tip-off is set for 7:00 ET and the game will be shown on ESPN U.
