I’m sure that most of you know that the 4th rated shooting guard chose the Florida Gators over the Duke Blue Devils, Texas Longhorns, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. There isn’t a whole lot to say other then Boynton chose to stay in his home state of Florida and this is one recruit that Duke did not get that will really hurt them over the next couple of years.

Duke got things started on Saturday with an exhibition game against Div 2 school Virginia Union. Virginia Union was clearly outmatched in the game which was expected as the Blue Devils went on to win 114-50. It was a good win for the Blue Devils but they have plenty of work to do.
In some what of a suprise, freshman Miles Plumlee got the start at center for the Blue Devils. He says he was very nervous as he was announced but he quickly got over the nervousness as he scored the two first baskets for Duke. He finished the game with 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks in 16 minutes.
Kyle Singler and freshman Elliot Williams led the Blue Devils with 15 points each. In all the Blue Devils had six players score in double figures.
One other suprise in the game was that Nolan Smith got the start at point guard and Greg Paulus came in off the bench. I’m not sure if Coack K is trying light a fire under Greg but he is up to something. Many reporters are saying they would not be suprised if Paulus came off the bench to start the season as well.
Duke will play another exhibition match this Wednesday, November 5th against Lenoir-Rhyne. We will have a update on Thursday regarding the game so please check back!

The Duke Basketball team picked up a verbal commitment from Ryan Kelly on Thursday. Kelly is a 6′9 205 lb forward from Raleigh. Kelly is ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the country by scout.com and the No. 14 prospect by recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons of All-Star Sports.
Kelly took official visits to Georgetown, Notre Dame, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. He visited Duke and North Carolina unofficially.
Kelly averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots last season at Ravenscroft, which is coached by former Duke guard Kevin Billerman.
The Blue Devils picked up some much needed height with the commitment from Kelly. Now if he could put on 20 lbs of muscle I think he could do very well for the Blue Devils in a couple of years.

It’s that time of the year where we start seeing team previews being published on the Internet and in magazines. Rivals has just released their 2008-2009 preview for the upcoming Duke basketball season and I have to agree with a lot of what they have to say.
Read the Rivals article here and then leave us some comments and let us know what you agree or disagree with.
