Duke played very slow and sluggish on Sunday night in their 81-67 victory over Cornell. It was the first game the Blue Devils have played since they lost to Pitt on December 20th. You could tell the layoff really hurt them, hopefully get get back at it hard in practice and come out and play better during their next game against Temple on Jan 9th.
DeMarcus Nelson led the Blue Devils with 23 points as he went past the 1000 point mark in his Duke career. Nelson became the 55th player in Duke history to surpass the 1000 point mark. Hardwork and determination have really paid off for DeMarcus during his Duke career.
Kyle Singler (14 points), Gerald Henderon (12 points), and Greg Paulus (11 points) were the other Blue Devils to score in double figures.
One player who didn’t see much playing time was Freshman Taylor King. King only attempted two shots in his five minutes of gametime. I don’t know if it was just the circumstances of the game or what was going on, but usually we see King getting a lot more playing time then five minutes.
Duke will now move onto play Temple Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. eastern. Hopefully Duke will travel well, and they come out and play a lot better then they did against Cornell.
