Greg Monroe trims his list to 5

The #1 rated player in the class of 2008 has trimmed his list of possible schools to five.  Home state school LSU will host Monroe the first weekend of October, and then Georgetown gets a shot at him during midnight madness. Duke, Texas and UConn round out the list of five, but official visit dates have not yet been set for those three schools.

If Coach K and the Duke assistant coaches can get Monroe to come to Duke, it will be one of the bigger signings in quite a while.  Monroe is a bigtime player that can help right away in the low post game.

Lets all hope for the best, and hopefully Monroe will have a great visit when he checks out Duke.

Duke picks up committment from Olek Czyz

Olek Czyz took a visit too Louisville then went back home for a day and decided that he wanted to committ to the Duke Basketball program.  Czyz is a power forward from Reno, Nevada who averaged 18.7 points and 8.3 rebounds during his Junior season.

Czyz is rated as a three-star by rivals.com and 28th rated power forward in the country.  Czyz really enjoyed playing some pick up games during his Duke visit.  He enjoyed playing with Taylor King, Kyle Singler, and Nolan Smith who will be freshman this year.

Welcome to the Duke Family Mr. Czyz

DeMarcus Nelson named captain

Sports Illustrated is saying that DeMarcus Nelson has been named the captain for the upcoming season.  A lot of Duke fans are wondering why Greg Paulus was not a co-captain but I agree with the decision to only have Nelson.

Paulus needs to be more then just a floor general for this team.  He needs to play every game like it is his last game.  Make smart decisions and cut down on his tournovers.  Hopefully he will have a quicker step as well and step up his defense from last year.

We will see as Duke opens practice soon!
