The young Blue Devils cannot find a way to win a game at this point in the season. After losing yesterday to Maryland, the Devils have now lost four in a row for the first time since the 1996 season.
Anytime the Blue Devils would get the game within 5 or so points, it would be a few tournovers and easy buckets for Maryland that would push the lead back to 10-12 in the second half. McRoberts had a pretty good game, but he can’t do it all. DeMarcus Nelson seems lost out there and might be trying to do to much himself.
This team is going to have to turn it around if they want to pick up a decent seed in the tournament at the end of the year. They have got to start winning some ball games, and close out the games that they get 10 point leads in. It could be a long 6 weeks for this Blue Devil team.

Freethrows, Freethrows, Freethrows. That is what tonights game against North Carolina came down too. Duke only made two of their free throws in the second half after going 9-9 in the first half. Foul trouble with sharp shooter Jon Scheyer, and point guard Greg Paulus didn’t help either.
I can’t tell you how pissed I am right now. Duke controlled this game, they had momentum, the crowd was into it, and they just couldn’t hold onto their lead once again. It wasn’t the missed layups tonight, it was the damn missed field goals that hurt the team. How often will you see Scheyer and Nelson miss two out of three free throws? You make those free throws and it is a totally different game.
Jon Scheyer did have a great game with a career high 26 points but where was his support cast? Besides Paulus and his 15 points, Henderson with 14 points there really wasn’t anyone that helped the team out on the offensive side of the ball.ÂÂ
McRoberts, you have got to shoot the damn ball. I don’t care how many assits you have, take the ball to the black, and make some damn layups. The worst thing, you will get fouled! Lets get to the line and score some points!
It could be a long week for the Dukies, as they have to travel to Maryland and Boston College. Could the Blue Devils lose 5 in a row? Right now I think they could. Will Coack K let them? It is hard to tell.  I won’t fault their effort tonight, but damnit I’m tired of them not closing out games.

I’ve heard reports that are saying Paulus and the four freshman will be starting tonights game against the hated rival Tar Hells. This is another one of Coack K’s motivational moves and he hopes to light a fire under McRobert’s and Nelson’s asses.ÂÂ
Hopefully they can come out and play with a ton of emotion and help lead this team to a victory that they really need at this point in the season. We all know how this rivalry goes so I won’t bother getting into that. Expect a game recap tonight or early in the morning however. GO DUKE!

Duke just can’t figure out a way to get a bucket at the end of the game lately. The last two games they have had a chance to win the game with a last second bucket, but both times it wasn’t meant to be. Today against Florida State, Josh McRoberts and DeMarcus Nelson both had chances with a few seconds left to give the Blue Devils the lead but both times had the ball bounce off the rim.
It was supposed to be a great day to be Duke fan as J.J. Redick had his jersey retired, but that was about the only thing to celebrate. We don’t have a clutch player like J.J. who can knock down the key shot and put us on his back and carry the team to victory. Nelson, Paulus, McRoberts just aren’t that player right now.
Can it get any worse? We have hated North Carolina coming into Cameron on Wednesday night. You can expect an epic battle, but right now I really don’t have confidence in this Duke team to pull off the upset. Hopefully that changes but I’m really not sure if it can.
What do you all think? What is this team missing? Do we have a chance against North Carolina? Leave your comments and lets talk Duke Basketball.

Just a quick reminder before tip-off in 10 minutes that J.J. Redick will have his jersey retired during halftime of todays game against Florida State.
The former Blue Devil superstar and John R. Wooden Award winner holds the NCAA record for most career three point baskets, as well as the ACC and Duke career scoring records.
Redick was part of three ACC Tournament championships at Duke, two ACC regular season championships, one Final Four, and three additional trips to the Sweet 16.
J.J. wil go down as one of the greatest Duke players of all time. It was a pleasure watching him develope as a player from his Freshman year through his Senior year. I don’t remember one player that took so much hate from opposing teams and fans as JJ did. Also when the Blue Devils needed a huge shot, they knew that they could rely on Redick to hit that three pointer and carry them to the win!

Last night’s game against Virgina was a tale of two halfs. The first half the Dukies looked great and and held a 7 point lead heading into halftime. But the second half was pretty bad as Lance Thomas fouled out early which really hurt the inside game of Duke. Lance was having a good day until fouling out and we could have really used him down the stretch.
You have to give credit to Virgina for battling back and getting their crowd back in the game in the second half. They came out and really took it to Duke. J.R. Reynolds and Sean Singletary put the team on their backs and took them to the victory.
Should the game have went into OT? Well I don’t think so because McRoberts will make that basket 9 times out of 10. He has missed a few close ones this year and this one really hurt the team. It would have gave the Blue Devils a great ACC road win but it just wasn’t meant to be.
